Inspiration:
At the core of my artistic expression lies the ever faithful base of Fantasy. Varying from trigger to trigger, what stirs and drives my art if the fantastical, magical and extraordinary. In the ever changing world of grey to grey, it is often the beauty and colour of the fantastical which captures my imagination and drives me to create, capture and explore.
Execution: Digital Air-Brushing using a reference model ~anttek Original work was detailed at 5400 x 3600 pixels for clarity of resolution. Image was composed using 10 layers in PS
Delivery:
The simplicity of the Faery is often played down in Fantasy (personal opinion). More often than not, the playfulness and beauty of the relatively smaller creature is over shadowed by Dragons, Magicians, Mystics and or depicted in a overtly feminine manner. (not that I'm knocking Dragons or feminine Faeries - by all means they rock in their own right) Here, I have chosen to depict a more masculine Fae in mid-glide - capturing the majestic beauty of a creature, so unlike man, yet so fantastically tangible.
Personally, I believe Faeries as a general species, are neither good nor evil. They live for the moment and enjoy what fruits of their existence has to offer. The mood and expression which is conveyed is that one of indifference, to life, to the world and to existence.
The choice of colours are more subdued in the cooler end of the spectrum for the atmosphere of night, where their mysterious glow becomes more alluring and captivating. The accompanying Wisps (smaller Fae) are there for lighting.
Props:
Thanks to ~anttek for allowing me to use his face and body as a ref - it's always easier to work with a base which is already captivating.
I like him. Hes got this carefree arrogance about him, a careless superiority almost... and a fuuurry chest! very unlike you my friend, and im not usually a fan but hes kinda cute with a chest mop.
That is breathtaking Zach. The details are incredible and the colours feel so "right" (Although I love the androgyne fae I must say a more masculine one is a nice change, and he is a far cry from being butch ) Personally, I believe Faeries as a general species, are neither good nor evil. They live for the moment and enjoy what fruits of their existence has to offer. The mood and expression which is conveyed is that one of indifference, to life, to the world and to existence.
I agree on that. That's exactely how I see them too
I had to chack out anttek's gallery. I can see why you used him as reference. He was the perfect choice for this.
Great job
I was totally stunned when the page loaded, the piece is like an incredible embodiment of amazing colours and light. Again, I'm fascinated by the amount of detail you've managed to get into the piece. The fibers of hair on the body and wings and the soft tree and cloud formations bordering the image.
The multiple light sources from the wisps and the soft ambient lighting of the whole scene are truly amazing, captivating. Pastel tones and colours make for a great harmony with the organic flowing shapes of the various figures you've shown, and they really create a relaxing, playful feel for the image.
I love your take on the fantasy world, I agree that imaginary creatures such as this really are too often overlooked, or in your words, played down, so to see another viewpoint and a different perspective is always nice.
Congrats on this piece Zach, hell you've certainly earned a +fav from me.
Fine, il elaborate. The wings are great art because they really do look translucent, thanks mainly to the spreading light of the wisps behind them. The scaling however is a little out of tone with the type i think. The wings are soft and the downey long fur on his body make for smooth skin or perhaps a lighter coloured fur more than for scales. Colours are perfact, they add a light, moody touch. Not dark, but a sort of ethereal mysteriousness. Very good
it gots an special enchantment.... yes it does.. he does...
amainziling gorgeous colouring...

_Then he aimed a great blow, and struck the wolf on the head, and killed him on the spot; and when he was dead they cut open his body and set Tommy free:AAAAH!
I can't see in full-view I'll try later but it seems to be good, when I see the full-view I'll try to make a good comment in anyway, good luck in the contest
